Tofu Mushroom Steak Sandwich with Horseradish Aioli

Delicious vegan sandwich made with tofu and mushroom makes for the perfect lunch!

Cooking Directions

  • Mix all the ingredients for tofu and marinate the tofu in the fridge for at least a hour.
  • Meanwhile blend all the ingredients for the aioli, adjust the seasoning as needed. Set aside.
  • Heat the grill pan and grill the tofu steaks for 4-5 minutes each side.
  • Grill the bread. Grill the mushrooms for 2-3 minutes. Spread generous amounts of aioli on the toast then the greens, mushrooms, and tofu. Enjoy.

For the Tofu Steak:

  • 1pkg. House Foods Tofu Extra Firm, drained, pressed and slice into ¼ inch thick long pieces
  • 1 tsp. onion powder
  • 1 tsp. garlic powder
  • ½ tsp. any BBQ steak spice rub or cayenne powder
  • Vegetable broth, enough to coat the tofu
  • 1 Tbsp. Liquid smoke
  • 1 tsp. maple syrup
  • 1 Tbsp. Soy sauce or liquid amino

For the sauce:

  • 1 tsp. lemon juice or white vinegar
  • 1 tsp. lemon juice or white vinegar
  • 2-3 Tbsp. prepared plain horseradish
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Assemble the sandwich:

  • 4 Ciabatta rolls
  • 4-5 cremini mushrooms, sliced
  • Handful of your favorite greens; spinach, kale, arugula, mixed greens
  • Olive oil, for grilling
