Peanut Crusted Baked Tofu with Sesame Vinegar Sauce

Baked peanut crusted tofu served with a sesame vinegar dipping sauce is sure to be a vegetarian favorite.

Cooking Directions

Preheat oven to 375°F.

  • Remove tofu from container. Drain and press dry. Cut tofu in half on its thick side. Then cut each half into 6 squares.
  • Combine peanuts, breadcrumbs, salt, and garlic powder in a shallow bowl.
  • Beat egg with water and pour into another shallow bowl.
  • Dip each piece of tofu into egg mixture to coat all sides. Let drip off a bit, then dip in peanut mixture and use hands to press and help attach coating. Set on parchment lined baking tray and repeat with remaining tofu.
  • Bake for 20 minutes, then broil for 3 minutes to brown. Remove from oven.
  • Whisk all sauce ingredients together in a bowl and serve with tofu, for dipping.

Ingredients

Tofu:

  • 1 pkg. House Food Tofu Extra Firm or Super Firm, pressed well to remove water
  • ½ cup finely crushed, roasted & salted peanuts (use a food processor to crush)
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs
  • ¼ tsp. salt
  • ½ tsp. garlic powder
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp. water

Sesame Vinegar Sauce:

  • 2 Tbsp. tamari
  • 1 Tbsp. sesame oil
  • 3 Tbsp. rice wine vinegar
  • 1½ tsp. honey
  • ½ tsp. crushed red pepper flakes
  • sliced green onions and toasted sesame seeds for garnish
